Contrary to popular myths Secretaries' Day was not created by florists, candy makers, or greeting card manufactures. In fact Secretaries' Day was established in 1952 by Harry F. Klemfuss in conjunction with the National Secretaries Association established National Secretaries' Week, and National Secretaries' Day to honor the work done by secretaries and administrative professionals and to encourage more people to consider a carrier as a secretary.
In 2000 the National Secretaries Association and Secretaries' Day officially changed their names to International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) and Administrative Professionals' Day. The changes took place to reflect the ever changing responsibilities of administrative professionals and the changes that have taken place in the workplace over the years since the U.S. Secretary of Commerce Charles Sawyer first recognized the event back in 1952.
In most offices today Administrative Professionals' Day is recognized along side birthdays as an important way to thank and individuals for their hard work over the course of a year. This April 21st we would love to help you to show your appreciation for all of the hard work of the the secretaries, office managers, and other administrative professionals who have helped to make your business a success in these hard times.
